SHINE - DARE TO DREAM

SHINE_to_be_broadcasted_through_the_school_system

“SHINE – Dare to Dream” begins with the humble origins of Xinmin, when our founder selflessly gave up his entire fortune – five precious pigs – to start a school to educate the young immediately after the Japanese surrendered. Riding on the story of three generations of Xinmin students in a family, the musical takes us through the difficult post-World War II era, traverses the tumultuous nation building period and the trough years in the  school, till we arrive at the present, when Xinmin becomes who we are today with students who dare to dream, just like our school founder decades before. Join us in a night of remembrance and appreciation amidst magnificent lights and grand sets. Be moved by thespian skills that tug at the heartstrings and spur the spirit.

Best Delegates at NTU Model United Nations Conference (NTUMUN) 2010

NTUMUN is one of the more prestigious Model United Nations in Singapore, with sponsors like the International Herald Tribune, CNN and the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies.

Five students represented Xinmin, assuming roles as the Delegates of the Maldives, India and Finland at the conference. They are Alvin Suardana (402), Arief Senverill Sentana (402), Niruthavignesh A/L Sundararajah (403), Collins Jaise Abraham (403) and Devaraj S/O Chandramoorthi (502).

Niruthavignesh and Collins were awarded the Dorothy Lee Award for Best Delegates of their council after a weekend of intense debates.

This is a tremendous achievement because not only did they have to juggle the NTUMUN preparations with their O Level preparations, but they were also competing against older students from local and overseas universities, many of whom already have a specialised background in Political Science, History or are members of their institutions' Debating Societies.

Well done, students!

International Festival Of Advent And Christmas Music, Bratislava, Slovakia

Our choir, Xinmin Chorale, participated in this festival held in Slovakia in Dec 09. Besides being the first time for the choir being in an international competition, they were also the only Asian country participant. Without any expectation of winning the competition except to gain exposure and experience for the choir members, they were pleasantly surprised when they clinched the Gold as well as being the overall winner in the category for children below 16 years old. Well done Xinmin Chorale! You have kept the Singapore as well as Xinmin flag flying high!

Create2010

The inaugural Create 2010 competition was organized by a Creators of Tomorrow, a private sector interest group formed by 12 engineers, entrepreneurs and designers based in Singapore to encourage students to come up with ideas that would help improve lives through engineering. Only 5 projects (out of 175) were selected for the finals held in Dec 09,and Xinmin Secondary School was one of the 5 finalists. The team comprising Koh Wai Heng (402), Niruthavignesh Sundararajah (403) and Abraham Collins Jaise (403) did not walk away with the prize – a five-day trip to the facilities of automobile company BMW in Munich, Germany – but they certainly had everyone’s attention in the auditorium on their cutting-edge idea on digital cloning. Kudos!
