Xinmin Secondary School is ranked as a Band 1 School (students emerge as top 10% in GCE O Level examinations) in the Annual School Achievement Tables for Secondary Schools.

Xinmin Secondary School is presented the Outstanding Development Award for Character Development, ODA(CD) 2006-2010, recognizing it as an institution with innovative, sustainable and exemplary approaches to character development.

The school is re-validated successfully in the External Validation exercise and retains the Autonomous School status for another 5 years. The EV affirms the school's autonomous school status as well as deserving owners of Best Practice Awards of Teaching & Learning, Staff Well-Being and Student All-Round Development.

The school is awarded once again the Thinking Culture (National) Award 2006-2007, apart from winning the Thinking Culture (North Zone) Award in the same year.

Xinmin Secondary School celebrates its 60th Anniversary on 4 August 2005.

School is awarded the School Excellence Award (SEA), the highest and most prestigious award in the Ministry of Education's Masterplan of Awards framework. The award serves as a mark of distinction for schools that have achieved overall systemic excellence in both academic as well as non-academic outcomes.

School is re-certified successfully and awarded once again the prestigious Singapore Quality Class (2005-2009) membership. Apart from retaining the Best Practice Award (Teaching & Learning) as well as Best Practice Award (Staff Well-Being), the school is also awarded the Best Practice Award (Student All-Round Development).

With the completion of PRIME, Xinmin Secondary School shifts back permanently to its original site at 11 Hougang Avenue 8 on 1st December 2004.

School is awarded the prestigious School Distinction Award (SDA) given by MOE. This award is a new award introduced in 2004 to give recognition to good schools that have produced sound processes and practices. It is a key milestone in a school's journey towards achieving the School Excellence Award (SEA).

School shifts to temporary holding site at 21 Fernvale Link (off Seng Kang West Avenue) and started new academic term on 2 Jan 2003. Meanwhile, the original site at Hougang Avenue 8 goes through a two-year refurbishment and reconstruction works under MOE's PRIME initiative.

Mr Lee Hak Boon was succeeded by Mrs Low-Sim Ay Nar (formerly Vice-Principal of Nanyang Girls High School) on 16 Dec 2002.

Mr Goh was succeeded by Mr Lee Hak Boon, formerly Assistant Director of Pastoral Care and Career Guidance (PCCG) at the Ministry of Education.

The school headed by Mr Goh has since been noted as one of the top 20 "value-added" schools nearly every year. In 1993 and 1996, the school topped the value added list.

Mr Teo retired and was succeeded by Mr Goh Tong Pak.

The school was relocated to its present site in Hougang. The school was renamed Xinmin Secondary School.

The primary section moved to new premises in Hougang and was known as Xinmin Primary School.

|
Mr Teo Ting Kok was appointed Principal of Sin Min High School. The school was converted to an English-medium Stream School.

The school became a government school.

Sin Min High School became a Chinese/English integrated school with an English stream in the primary section.

Mr Chew Peng Leng took over principalship from his predecessor Mr Tung who was retiring.

Funds were raised for the aquisition of the rented school building and also for the construction of the new classrooms.

The school became an aided school with Primary and Secondary Classes.

Mr Tung Si Yu became the Principal. (First Principal of Secondary Section)

Mr Heng Chin Soo succeeded Mr Yap as Principal.
