We will celebrate our 65th anniversary in 2010. Counting back, you will
realise that this school was established in the year the Japanese
surrendered. From the ashes of World War 2, our founding Principal built a
school to serve the population in Serangoon so that our 'new citizens'
(words in Chinese in brackets) will have an education, peace and a brighter
future.
This school rose rapidly since the 1990s to be one of the top Government
schools in Singapore, eventually winning the pinnacle School Excellence
Award for sustained good processes and results for both students and staff.
What sets Xinmin apart is that we are constantly reinventing ourselves even
as our profile of students continue to improve in T scores. We never stay
still. We are always innovating. What remains the same in this sea of
change is a pervasive culture of care among students and staff. Xinmin
students are sincere in learning and serving, with a tremendous drive to
excel in every field.
Our Xinmin curriculum is designed to equip our students with attitudes and
habits that will enable them to be successful in life, skills that are
relevant for the 21st century and a deep understanding of human behaviour,
the physical world and global awareness. The Talent Development Programme
is layered on top of the Xinmin curriculum to identify and develop
students, so that they can discover their passion and blossom. Through our
nurturing, they have the confidence to lead and work in cross cultural
settings and befriend people from diverse backgrounds. In this way, we
will achieve our vision of Leading Hearts, Leading Minds.
