Character Development
The character of a person encompasses the whole person. The character of a child is of utmost importance to his life and the nation. In Xinmin Secondary School, the Character Development Committee aims to develop every student to live life in a personally and socially responsible way, exhibiting the core values of Mindset for Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility.
The school programmes include Art Costa's 16 Habits of Mind (HoM) and the Values Inculcation Programme (VIP) which tie in with the Value of the Months. Besides the weekly Character Education lessons, students' strength of character is further enhanced in platforms which include the CCAs, Community Involvement Programme and Take Charge! Own your school. Through these platforms and programmes, we will groom our students to be future leaders who can win the hearts of followers through strength of character and moral purpose.
Based on our validated self-assessment rubric for character development, the Committee has developed and implemented a teen-appropriate Character Development Education curriculum for the lower secondary. This will be extended to the upper secondary in 2009. |
